You can't tell quality by the price, but you can check it surprisingly well with your own senses. Four criteria are enough for a first assessment.
Appearance
A good flower is dense, evenly trimmed and shows visible trichomes. Lots of leaf material, dust at the bottom of the packaging or brownish discolouration point to careless handling or age.
Smell
Fresh material smells intense and typical of its strain – floral, spicy, citrusy. A musty, hay-like or chemical smell rules it out, as does any sign of moisture or mould.
Feel
The flower should give slightly and spring back when you break it apart. If it crumbles to dust, it was stored too dry. If it feels damp or spongy, be careful.
Packaging and origin
Airtight, protected from light, with clear strain and batch information. A shop that answers questions about origin and storage usually has nothing to hide – and that's exactly what we care about at Hanf Pate.
